“Our Mission: To provide our local community with an immersive, collaborative experience that emotionally connects them to current environmental issues facing Texas. “

Fabrication

As a member of the art team, our main objective was to focus on the aesthetics of the room, and to make sure all important information that needed to be shown to the players was available to them, while still being visually cohesive to the rest of the experience. As students with a limited budget and access to things that might be on an oil rig in the middle of the ocean, finding props was a challenge for us. Once we were delivered props from an actual marine science facility, it then became our job to dress the set. We worked closely with the puzzles team to create items that would need to be used for the various puzzles within the room. Through this project, I gained more experience with shop tools, served as our team manager, and learned how to make vinyl stickers.

Lighting

On light crew, our job in this project was to rig lights and create custom fixtures to add another layer of immersiveness to the room. The specific room I worked on was the exterior of the escape room, only visible through windows during the experience. Half of the lights we hung were out of view from the players to simulate lightning on the faux deck, while the other two were mostly set dressing. We rigged the lights, and controlled them via a Hog 4 console.
